Company Direction Programme
The programme provides the knowledge and understanding essential for effective strategic leadership and
direction of a business. The Scottish Director Development Centre recognises the need for flexibility and
offers the courses over two semesters annually allowing delegates to coordinate their work and study.
Delegates can take one, several or all of the six course titles, leading to The Diploma in Company Direction
and The Chartered Director Qualification.

Diploma in Company Direction
Once you have completed the Certificate in Company Direction courses and examination, the 3 day Developing Board Performance course is the next step. It provides an opportunity to put into practice the knowledge gained from the Certificate in a realistic and safe environment. It encourages peer group support, challenge and stimulation, mirroring in many ways the operation of a board. This is a compulsory course which you must attend prior to sitting the Diploma examination. When you have passed the examination you will be awarded the Diploma in Company Direction.

The Six Course Titles:
This course aims to provide you with an introduction to the role, duties and responsibilities you
have as a director of a limited company. You will learn how to analyse the role of the board, identify good practice
and understand the roles and relationships directors have in different types of company contest. The company law aspect,
which is covered on the third day, focuses on the legal status of the company, the duties and liabilities of individual
directors and the board and the legal requirements and information disclosure obligations of directors for data protection,
employment, health and safety and IPR.

This course aims to provide you with essential knowledge about the financial terms and concepts which you need as a director of a limited company. You will learn how to interpret and compile financial statements, distinguish between management accounts and statutory company reports and learn about sources of finance with the advantages and disadvantages of each.
